During her conversation with Vogue Japan, Gomez explained the seven-year gap in LP releases, stating, “I had nothing to write about because I’m so used to crafting sad girl music. I love a good sad girl song, but I wasn’t going through something that felt like it was tearing me apart.” She revealed that her upcoming album shifts from her previous focus on “sad girl music” to a collection of uplifting and empowering songs, emphasizing, “I have not written a single sad song for this album.” Her primary focus now is creating “great pop music to make fans want to dance.”

Last summer, the 31-year-old singer unveiled “Single Soon,” her first song since the 2022 release “My Mind & Me.” While the song was intended to be a fun record, Gomez clarifies that it doesn’t fully represent the entirety of the upcoming album.

Gomez’s latest project was the 2021 EP “Revelación,” her first venture into the Spanish language, blending elements of reggaeton and Latin pop. The EP earned a nomination for Best Latin Pop Album at the 2022 Grammy Awards, marking Gomez’s first career Grammy nomination.
