When did Normani start working on her debut album?

In 2018, Fifth Harmony announced their hiatus, and all the members began pursuing solo careers. Normani immediately dove into recording her debut album. On July 1, 2018, she revealed she had a title for it. The following month, she dropped “Motivation,” which was intended to be the lead single. Over the next few years, she collaborated with artists like Sam Smith and Cardi B. In a 2021 interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Normani shared that the album was “almost done” and discussed the challenges of creating the best possible project. However, the album’s official announcement only came last April, six years later.

What has Normani said about “Dopamine”?

In a recent interview, Normani expressed her intentions for this debut album: “I just want this to be an album that completely represents who Normani is, and for some people, it may be the first time.” She added that “Dopamine” reflects her evolution and “the highs and lows” she has experienced. In an interview with Billboard, she explained that the album’s name symbolizes her stepping into who she’s meant to be and owning her identity.

The album will also feature “Wild Side” with Cardi B.
