Dua Lipa closed the Radical Optimism Tour with a moment that immediately entered the canon of her most emotional live performances. On December 5, the global pop star wrapped her third headlining world tour with a third consecutive sold-out show at Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City, delivering a finale crafted to honor the culture that embraced her throughout the tour’s Latin American leg. In front of more than 60,000 fans, Lipa surprised the crowd with a heartfelt tribute to Selena Quintanilla, performing a Tex-Mex-styled cover of the Tejano icon’s 1994 classic “Amor Prohibido.”

During the show, Lipa explained why she selected “Amor Prohibido” as the final cover of the tour. “I chose this song because I feel a very special connection with this artist and with her feeling of belonging to two places at the same time,” she said. “I deeply identify with that. I feel that I am Albanian and English, just as she was Mexican and American.”

The tribute also aligned with the approach Lipa has taken throughout the Radical Optimism Tour. Each stop featured a city-specific or country-specific cover chosen to honor local music traditions. Earlier in Mexico City, she performed the bolero standard “Bésame Mucho,” and during the second night, she invited Maná legend Fher Olvera onstage for a powerful duet of the band’s 1992 hit “Oye Mi Amor.” In South America, she covered Shakira’sAntología,” Mon Laferte’s “Tu Falta de Querer,” and La Ley’s “El Duelo,” while the European and North American legs included guest appearances from artists like Brandi Carlile, Gwen Stefani, and Lionel Richie.
