BTS officially returned to the stage on March 21, 2026, with BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE | ARIRANG, an outdoor concert at Gwanghwamun Square that doubled as a global livestream event on Netflix. The performance marked their first full-group show in over three years, transforming a historic Seoul landmark into a high-production arena.
Staged in front of Gyeongbokgung Palace, the concert visually anchored ARIRANG’s themes of heritage and identity. LED installations inspired by the South Korean flag, combined with large-scale lighting rigs, framed a set that balanced national symbolism with stadium-level spectacle. Attendance estimates exceeded 200,000 fans on-site, stretching more than a kilometer from the main stage, making it one of the largest gatherings of BTS’s career.
The show arrived just one day after the release of ARIRANG, the group’s fifth studio album, which draws from the traditional Korean folk song “Arirang.” That connection between past and present shaped the setlist, blending newly debuted material with defining global hits. Tracks like “Body to Body,” “Like Animals,” and the title track “Swim” made their live premieres, offering fans the first full staging of the album’s experimental production.
Familiar anthems were equally central to the structure. “Butter” and “Dynamite” reappeared as key moments.
Performance adjustments added an unexpected layer. RM performed seated for much of the show following an ankle injury sustained during rehearsals on March 19, a decision that did little to diminish his presence.
The event also served as a launchpad for the upcoming Arirang World Tour, set to begin on April 9, 2026, in Goyang. With stops planned across Asia, Europe, North America, and Latin America through March 2027, the Gwanghwamun performance offered an early blueprint for how this new era will translate live.
