Chappell Roan has addressed the controversy sparked by Jorginho, responding directly to claims about an alleged confrontation involving a security guard and his family. The singer shared her statement via Instagram Stories on March 22, offering her account of the incident that fueled widespread online debate just one day earlier.
Breaking her silence, Roan distanced herself from the situation while acknowledging the discomfort it may have caused. “I’m just going to tell my half of the story of what happened today with a mother and child… who were involved with a security guard who was not my personal security,” she said. The Grammy-winning artist emphasized she had no direct interaction with the individuals in question, adding, “I didn’t even see a woman and a child… no one came up to me. No one bothered me. I was just sitting at breakfast in my hotel.”
Her comments follow Jorginho’s March 21 statement, in which he alleged that his daughter had briefly approached Roan’s table to confirm her identity before being confronted by a guard described as “extremely aggressive.” According to his account, the guard accused the child of “disrespecting” or “harassing” others and warned of a potential complaint to hotel management. The footballer’s closing remark—“Without your fans, you would be nothing”—quickly circulated across platforms, intensifying scrutiny around the singer.
Addressing the broader reaction, Roan clarified her stance on fan interactions while expressing empathy toward those involved. “People who are fans of my music—I do not hate children. That is crazy,” she said. An apology followed, directed at the family: “I’m sorry to the mother and child that someone was assuming something that you would do something… if you felt uncomfortable, that makes me really sad.” She reiterated that the security guard in question was not part of her personal team, underscoring a separation between her presence and the incident itself.
Online discourse remains sharply divided. Some critics continue to associate the situation with Roan, while others point to her statement as evidence of misdirected backlash. Conversations on X have centered on accountability within an artist’s extended environment, as well as the broader expectations placed on public figures in uncontrolled spaces such as hotels and airports.
