An apparent AI-generated duplicate of Locket by Madison Beer has surfaced on Spotify under the name “Sarah Yamaguchi,” raising serious concerns about copyright infringement and the growing misuse of artificial intelligence in music distribution.
The unauthorized release mirrors the original album in striking detail. From song titles and lyrics to melodies and overall structure, the project appears to replicate Locket in full. It is not labeled as a remix, tribute, or reinterpretation. There is no indication of official involvement from Beer, her team, or her labels. As of publication, no formal statement has been issued by the artist.
The discovery quickly circulated among fans online, many of whom flagged the duplicate as AI-generated. Early analysis suggests the vocals and production were recreated using generative tools designed to mimic tone and arrangement. While AI-assisted music is not new, the replication of an entire commercially released album — without authorization — marks a troubling escalation.
Released on January 16, through Epic Records and Sing It Loud, Locket is Beer’s third studio album and her first since 2023’s Silence Between Songs. The record was preceded by the singles “Make You Mine,” “Yes Baby,” and “Bittersweet,” with “Bad Enough” arriving alongside the album.
Commercially, Locket entered the Billboard 200 at No. 10, becoming Beer’s first top-ten album in her home country. A supporting tour is set to launch in the coming weeks across North America and Europe.
The Spotify listing under “Sarah Yamaguchi” appears to leverage the same tracklist sequencing as the original release. If confirmed as infringing content, the upload could violate both copyright law and Spotify’s distribution policies. Streaming platforms typically rely on rights holders and distributors to report unauthorized material before removal.
