Madonna is revisiting one of her most iconic visuals—this time with a modern twist. On March 23, 2026, the pop legend shared a video on Instagram recreating the gondola scene from her 1984 classic “Like a Virgin,” joined by Julia Garner during what appears to be an on-location shoot in Venice, Italy.

In the clip, Madonna and Garner are seen gliding through Venetian canals, lip-syncing and echoing the romantic, theatrical tone of the original visual. Captioned “Like A Virgin……again and again. 🇮🇹 #juliagarner,” the post quickly sparked conversation online, with fans pointing out the layered nostalgia of the moment. The original “Like a Virgin” video, directed by Mary Lambert, remains one of Madonna’s defining works, pairing bridal imagery with a provocative, cinematic setting across Venice’s waterways.

The timing of the recreation is closely tied to the pair’s recent appearances in the city. Both Madonna and Garner have been spotted filming scenes for Season 2 of The Studio, the Seth Rogen-led satire exploring the inner workings of Hollywood.

Beyond the immediate visual callback, the collaboration carries added significance due to Garner’s connection to Madonna’s long-developing biopic. First announced in 2020, the self-directed feature—reportedly titled Who’s That Girl—was designed as a deeply personal account of Madonna’s life and career, with the artist maintaining full creative control. Garner ultimately secured the lead role after an intensive audition process widely referred to as “Madonna bootcamp,” which involved rigorous dance and performance sessions.

Although the project was put on indefinite hold at Universal Pictures in early 2023, updates have continued to surface. In September 2025, Garner confirmed in an interview with W Magazine that the film remains “a work in progress,” keeping interest alive among fans.
