Drake used a national stage to bridge legacy and anticipation. In a pre-taped studio message aired during the JUNO Awards 2026, the rapper honored Nelly Furtado’s induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame while closing with a brief but pointed tease: “ICEMAN coming soon.”
In the video, Drake described Furtado as “one of my favorite human beings and artists of all time,” calling her a “north star” for Canadian musicians navigating global pop success. He highlighted her crossover impact through defining hits including “I’m Like a Bird,” “Maneater,” and “Promiscuous,” the latter created alongside Timbaland. “Enjoy your Hall of Fame status, it’s long overdue,” he added.
The tribute arrives as Drake intensifies a nontraditional rollout for his ninth studio album Iceman. Earlier this month, he posted a photo of a notebook labeled “Iceman 2026” via Instagram Stories, followed by the phrase “Make Them Cry.” Those updates extend a campaign that has unfolded in fragments since 2024, favoring cryptic visuals and episodic releases over a standard announcement cycle.
Momentum around the project has been building through a mix of music drops and performance art. The EP 100 Gigs first seeded the Iceman title, while a series of YouTube livestreams—“Iceman: Episode 1,” “Episode 2,” and “Episode 3”—offered glimpses into the album’s sonic direction. Scenes ranged from Drake driving an Iceman-branded truck through Toronto to surreal sequences featuring Pinocchio figures, blending narrative with preview snippets.
Three singles have surfaced to date. “What Did I Miss?” introduced the era’s tone, followed by “Which One” featuring Central Cee and “Dog House,” a collaboration with Yeat and Julia Wolf. None have been formally confirmed for the final tracklist.
Context surrounding Iceman adds further weight. The album follows 2023’s For All the Dogs and arrives after a period defined by heightened scrutiny, including Drake’s widely publicized feud with Kendrick Lamar. That backdrop has shaped expectations for both its lyrical content and broader positioning within his catalog.
