BTS return with ARIRANG, a bold, high-voltage album that reasserts their identity while pushing their sound into sharper, more experimental territory. Across 14 tracks, the group balances scale and precision, delivering a record that rarely loosens its grip.
Released on March 20, 2026, ARIRANG arrives after a group hiatus that began in 2022, when RM, Jin, Suga, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook stepped away to complete South Korea’s mandatory military service. Work resumed in July 2025, with RM confirming via Weverse that the group was “working diligently,” before Jimin revealed on November 1 that the album was complete. Big Hit Music formally launched the era on January 4, 2026, pairing the announcement with a global tour, while the title—referencing a traditional Korean folk song—signaled a deliberate reconnection to their origins.
That sense of purpose defines the listening experience. Opening track “Body to Body,” co-produced by Diplo, wastes no time establishing momentum, blending alternative pop textures with pulsing electronic beats. Energy remains high through lead single “Swim,” while “Like Animals” introduces a darker, almost eerie tone that recalls early 2000s pop experimentation without sounding derivative.
Mid-album, “No. 29” stands out for its brevity and concept. Clocking in at just 1:39, the track incorporates the tolling of the Divine Bell of King Seongdeok, creating a moment that feels both historical and disorienting. Production choices across the album reflect that same ambition, with Mike WiLL Made-It contributing to “Aliens” and “2.0,” while Kevin Parker co-produces the swirling “Merry Go Round.”
