Taylor Swift has released her highly anticipated eleventh studio album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” and once again she has proven why she’s the biggest artist of this generation, and probably of the 21st century so far. The album has everything: heartfelt lyrics, deep vocals, consistency, production, and emotions—lots of emotions. The popstar pours herself into the musical content of each song, drawing inspiration from her personal experiences and, as usual, taking the listener along with her. “An anthology of new works that reflect events, opinions, and sentiments from a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time,” she shared shortly after the release. She also references the challenges of her unparalleled fame. In the track “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?”, Taylor reflects on the pressure and expectations placed on her persona, and how the media misunderstood her. “You taught me, you caged me, and then you called me crazy,” she sings.
The standard version of the album features sixteen songs, but Taylor wanted to give more to her fans. Just two hours after the album release, she treated fans with “The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology,” adding fifteen songs to the original tracklist. “I’d written so much tortured poetry in the past 2 years and wanted to share it all with you.” While the standard edition is primarily co-written with Jack Antonoff, “The Anthology” features ten songs co-written with Aaron Dessner. Overall, the LP features 31 songs, with Post Malone and Florence and The Machine as the only featured artists.
Although “The Tortured Poets Department” dropped a few hours ago, it has already broken several records. It has earned the biggest first-day streams for an album on Spotify in 2024 in less than 12 hours. Additionally, Taylor has now collected a total of 66 No. 1s on the US iTunes, becoming the first artist in history to achieve this milestone.
“The story isn’t mine anymore… it’s all yours,” Taylor wrote, and we enthusiastically listened to it—122 minutes of pure magic. Below, you can find all the 31 songs ranked by InMusic!
