Kylie Minogue has secured one of the most coveted honors in British pop culture. The global icon has officially claimed the UK Christmas Number 1 for 2025 with her festive single “XMAS,” marking a historic and record-breaking moment in her career. According to Official Charts, the achievement comes 37 years after Minogue made her chart debut with “I Should Be So Lucky,” completing one of the longest and most successful arcs in UK chart history.

With “XMAS,” Kylie becomes the first female artist ever to score UK Number 1 singles across four different decades: the 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, and 2020s. In doing so, she surpasses chart legends including Madonna, Lady Gaga, and Mariah Carey, all of whom reached Number 1 across three decades. Only a handful of artists—Elvis Presley, Elton John, Queen, and Cliff Richard—have previously achieved a similar multi-decade feat.

The Amazon Music exclusive also delivers Kylie her first-ever solo Christmas Number 1, decades after she narrowly missed out in 1988 with Jason Donovan on “Especially For You.” While she previously topped the festive chart as part of Band Aid II in 1989, “XMAS” stands as her first solo credited holiday chart-topper. It is also her first UK Number 1 single since 2003’s “Slow,” and the eighth chart-topper of her storied singles career.

The win ends WHAM!’s two-year reign at the top of the Christmas chart. “Last Christmas,” which made history in 2024 by becoming the first song ever to claim Christmas Number 1 in consecutive years, finishes as runner-up at Number 2. Mariah Carey’s perennial favorite “All I Want for Christmas Is You” settles at Number 3 for the second year in a row, while Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” holds strong at Number 4. Rarer still, Kylie is now only the third international female solo artist ever to achieve a UK Christmas Number 1, joining Winifred Atwell and Whitney Houston.

Meanwhile, the festive charts extend beyond singles. Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here claims the Official Christmas Number 1 album.
