Olivia Rodrigo has officially entered her next era, announcing her third studio album You Seem Pretty Sad For a Girl So in Love, set for release on June 12 via Geffen Records. The reveal follows weeks of tightly coordinated clues, from mural updates in Los Angeles to a full Instagram wipe on April 1.
“my third album ‘you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love’ is out June 12th. I am so proud of this record and I can’t wait for you to hear it,” Rodrigo wrote, confirming pre-orders are now live. The project arrives nearly three years after GUTS, her chart-topping sophomore album released in September 2023.
A New Era After GUTS’ Global Success
Rodrigo’s last album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 302,000 first-week units, topping charts in 15 countries including the United States and the United Kingdom. Every track from its standard edition landed inside the Billboard Hot 100’s top 40, led by “Vampire,” which reached No. 1. Follow-up singles “Bad Idea Right?” and “Get Him Back!” extended the album’s commercial reach, while the deluxe edition Spilled, released on March 22, 2024, introduced “Obsessed.”
Awards recognition followed quickly. At the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, GUTS earned nominations for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album, marking Rodrigo’s second consecutive nod in the top category. The era expanded further with the Guts World Tour, which grossed over $209 million across 101 shows between 2024 and 2025, alongside a Netflix concert film capturing her Los Angeles performances.
Tracklist, Release Clues, and Timeline
According to the album’s Spotify pre-save page, You Seem Pretty Sad For a Girl So in Love will include 13 tracks, making it her longest project to date. No official lead single has been announced yet, though Rodrigo’s website prominently highlights April 7, signaling a possible rollout milestone tied to either a first release or full tracklist reveal.
That date aligns with earlier hints embedded across her campaign. On March 20, her fan hotline referenced “clarity and renewal just after the pink moon,” narrowing the timeline for new music.
Aesthetic Shift: From Purple to Pink
Visual changes have defined the transition into this era. Rodrigo’s previous projects, SOUR and GUTS, were closely tied to a deep purple color palette, which is now absent from her third album’s artwork. Instead, the new visuals embrace a brighter pink aesthetic, first teased through her website redesign and reinforced by the evolving OR3 mural in Los Angeles.
Themes and Creative Direction
Rodrigo has offered early insight into the album’s emotional core through both her newsletter and recent interviews. “No matter how hard I try to write love songs they always come out laced with a little melancholy,” she wrote to fans, framing the project’s central tension.
Speaking to British Vogue in March, she described the record as “very varied” while emphasizing a desire to explore joy more directly.
Tour Hints and Physical Editions
Early signs point to a potential tour announcement. Rodrigo’s updated website features a sticker reading “OR on tour coming to a city near…,” hinting that live dates could follow shortly after the album’s release. Given the scale of the Guts World Tour, expectations for her next run are already high.
Pre-orders for the album include three distinct vinyl variants titled “static lover,” “sticky sweet,” and “spark in the dark,” reinforcing the era’s thematic and visual identity.
