Dove Cameron is officially entering a new chapter with “When In Rome,” her upcoming new song inspired by her time in Italy and her relationship with Damiano David. The song is set to arrive next Wednesday, September 9, with Cameron beginning to tease the track and what appears to be its accompanying music video.
Dove Cameron first previewed “When In Rome” on September 1, sharing a teaser that immediately pointed toward Italy as a central theme of the new era. The song appears to draw directly from her experiences in the country, with its lyrics and visuals seemingly connected to her relationship with David and the life they have shared there.
The teaser also appears to offer a glimpse at a music video filmed in Italy.
“When In Rome” arrives after roughly nine months of scattered clues about Dove Cameron’s next musical move. Throughout that period, the singer has continued to tease new material, while releasing “Do I Wanna Know?” for the 56 Days soundtrack.
The road to her upcoming album has been unusually long. Dove Cameron revealed in February, while promoting her Amazon series 56 Days in an interview with Paper Magazine, that she had been writing and planning an album since 2018, shortly after signing her record deal with Columbia Records.
According to Cameron, the project was completed multiple times but repeatedly failed to receive approval from the label. “It was just like, not now, not now, not now,” she explained, describing years of delays that prevented the full-length project from reaching fans.
Her debut EP, Alchemical: Volume 1, eventually arrived in 2023 through Disruptor Records and Columbia. The project expanded on the dark alt-pop sound established by “Boyfriend,” Cameron’s breakout single that became a viral sensation and reached the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100.
Singles including “Breakfast,” “Lethal Woman” and “Sand” continued building her identity as a solo artist, while Cameron returned to the release cycle with standalone tracks such as “Too Much,” “French Girls” and “Romeo” throughout 2025.
Away from recording, Dove Cameron has also continued expanding her live career. In 2025, she joined Dua Lipa for select European dates of the Radical Optimism Tour last summer, including performances at major venues such as London’s Wembley Stadium and Liverpool’s Anfield.
