Elon Musk has issued a sharp response to Billie Eilish after the Grammy-winning singer publicly criticized his immense personal wealth and questioned his commitment to global humanitarian issues. On late Monday (Nov. 17) on X, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO replied to a post summarizing Eilish’s remarks with a blunt message of his own: “She’s not the sharpest tool in the shed.”
Eilish first called out Musk on Nov. 13, sharing a series of Instagram Stories that highlighted the growing gap between the ultra-wealthy and the rest of the world. The “Birds of a Feather” singer reposted a viral graphic detailing what a trillionaire could theoretically accomplish, from ending world hunger to protecting endangered species. She added her own pointed critique, using strong language to condemn Musk’s refusal to use his wealth for large-scale social impact.

The tension did not emerge in isolation. Eilish has spent much of the year advocating for environmental action, wealth redistribution, and corporate accountability. Just weeks earlier, she used her acceptance speech at the 2025 WSJ Innovator Awards to challenge the concentration of wealth among top earners. During the event, she donated $11.5 million from her Hit Me Hard and Soft world tour to organizations combating food insecurity and climate change.
Her criticism of global wealth inequality also aligns with her long-standing commitment to sustainability. Eilish has collaborated with Reverb to minimize her tours’ environmental footprint, introduced plant-based initiatives at venues, and built interactive “Eco Villages” to encourage fans to participate in climate action.
