In recent years, Eminem has released his albums without prior announcement, starting this trend in 2018 with “Kamikaze,” and continuing with “Music to Be Murdered By.” However, “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)” marks a shift from Eminem’s signature stealth releases. The LP was first hinted at by Dr. Dre, who mentioned it in an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, confirming that it would be released sometime in 2024. In April, a teaser trailer for the album was broadcast during the NFL Draft in Detroit, revealing the title. The trailer features a fictional show called “Detroit Murder Files” and tells the story of the murder of Eminem’s alter ego, Slim Shady. Additionally, last week an obituary titled “Slim Shady Made Lasting Impressions” appeared in a Detroit free newspaper, stating that “fans will never forget [the] controversial rapper.”
Fans can’t wait to hear new material from the rapper, whose latest album, “Music to Be Murdered By,” dropped in 2020. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, making it Eminem’s tenth consecutive album to top the chart. It also spawned hit singles such as “Godzilla” featuring Juice WRLD, and “Darkness.” “Music to Be Murdered By” received critical acclaim and earned several awards, including an American Music Award for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album.
