Kesha is ready to take full control of her career as her brand-new album, Period, arrives this Friday. Marking her first release as an independent artist — and her first body of work since 2023’s experimental Gag Order (her final album under RCA Records) — the LP drops on a symbolic date: July 4, Independence Day. The title itself appears to carry symbolic meaning, as if Kesha is placing a full stop on her past and stepping into a new era of independence and creative freedom. As fans eagerly await her next chapter, here is your complete guide to Period.

The Path to Period

As mentioned above, Kesha’s previous album, Gag Order, was released in 2023 and marked a dramatic shift toward a more experimental sound. Following her departure from RCA Records, she launched her own label, Kesha Records, signing a distribution deal with Alternative Distribution Alliance (a subsidiary of Warner Music). She then announced Period — her first independent studio album — describing it as a project that fully embodies her freedom, both musically and artistically. Unlike Gag Order, Period returns to a more accessible pop and hyperpop sound, blending in elements of EDM, house, dance-pop, and even country-pop.
