A German retailer listing on JPC reportedly advertised a limited-edition 7-inch vinyl single titled “Expectations (with Chappell Roan),” with a projected release around October 16 through Interscope. Co-written by Olivia Rodrigo, Amy Allen and Dan Nigro, the original track was co-produced by Nigro and Mike Wise.
The rumored remix would also build on a relationship that stretches back several years. Nigro, a key creative collaborator for both singers, helped shape Rodrigo’s early albums and Roan’s breakthrough record, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. Chappell Roan contributed background vocals to multiple Rodrigo tracks across SOUR and GUTS, as well as “Can’t Catch Me Now,” Rodrigo’s contribution to The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes soundtrack.
Their connection has extended beyond the studio. Roan opened for Olivia Rodrigo on a San Francisco date of the SOUR Tour in 2022 and joined the GUTS World Tour for a substantial run of dates in 2024. That August, the pair shared the stage at Los Angeles’ Intuit Dome for a performance of Roan’s “Hot to Go!,” complete with its signature choreography. Rodrigo introduced Roan as one of the most singular, inspiring and powerful artists she had ever met.
An official “expectations” remix would turn years of shared history and fan speculation into their first prominent billed studio collaboration.
