Huh Yunjin has built a distinctive identity within LE SSERAFIM through her powerful vocals, songwriting, and willingness to express her own experiences through music. Born in Seoul but raised largely in the United States, Yunjin’s journey to becoming a K-pop idol took her through musical theater, survival-show competition, years of training, and a near decision to leave the industry altogether.
Yunjin was only eight months old when her family moved to the United States. She grew up in Wisconsin and Niskayuna, New York, where she used the English name Jennifer Huh. Music became an important part of her life from an early age, with Taylor Swift among her inspirations. Yunjin taught herself to play Swift’s songs on guitar and later participated in musical theater productions as a mezzo-soprano.
At 16, Yunjin moved to South Korea to pursue a career as a K-pop idol. She first gained public attention through Produce 48 in 2018, where she represented Pledis Entertainment alongside After School’s Lee Ga-eun. Yunjin was eliminated before the finale, ranking 26th, and spent several more years training before seriously considering leaving the industry and returning to the United States.
Her plans changed when HYBE contacted her in 2021 about joining its upcoming girl group. Yunjin accepted the opportunity and became the sixth and final member revealed for LE SSERAFIM. The group debuted in May 2022 with Fearless, with Yunjin already receiving a songwriting credit for “Blue Flame.”
Since then, Yunjin has developed an impressive catalog of self-written and self-composed songs, including “I ≠ Doll,” “Love You Twice,” “Blessing in Disguise,” and “Jellyfish.” Her music frequently draws from her own experiences, addressing subjects such as identity, public scrutiny, personal growth, and her complicated journey between Korea and the United States.
Yunjin has also collaborated with artists including GroovyRoom, Crush, MAX, and J-Hope, while continuing to expand her creative career outside LE SSERAFIM. In 2025, she was invited to become a member of the Recording Academy, adding another major achievement to her growing résumé.
