Summer Sonic 2026 officially kicks off Friday, August 14, bringing its 25th-anniversary edition to Tokyo and Osaka simultaneously. The opening day features The Strokes, Jennie, FKA twigs, L’Arc-en-Ciel, LE SSERAFIM, Jamiroquai, BABYMETAL and dozens of Japanese and international acts across multiple stages.
In Tokyo, gates at ZOZO Marine Stadium and Makuhari Messe open at 9 a.m., with the first performances beginning at 11 a.m. The Marine Stage builds toward a 7:20 p.m. headline set from The Strokes, following performances by BUMP OF CHICKEN, keshi, BABYMONSTER, Audrey Nuna and WEST.
The Mountain Stage offers another major draw with Jennie closing the stage, while Kasabian, Dermot Kennedy, Macaroni Empitsu, Kodaline, AiNA THE END and Cardinals fill out the day’s schedule. Over at the Sonic Stage, FKA twigs provides one of Friday’s biggest electronic and alternative highlights, with Jade, Holly Humberstone, Queen Bee, Chloe Qisha, Wisp, Florence Road and Hyojoo appearing earlier in the day.
Osaka’s opening day has its own blockbuster lineup. The Air Stage is scheduled to close with L’Arc-en-Ciel at approximately 7:20 p.m., following LE SSERAFIM, Pentatonix, Yuki, WANIMA and December 10.
Jamiroquai takes the top spot on Osaka’s Mountain Stage, with Carín León, Kitani Tatsuya, BINI, Nectar Woode, Sekou and Boy Soda appearing throughout the day. The Sonic “Metal” Stage is curated by BABYMETAL and features a heavy lineup including BABYMETAL, mgk, Pendulum, Ave Mujica, The Warning, South Arcade and Metalverse.
With the festival operating across two cities, deciding which sets to catch will be one of Friday’s biggest challenges. Tokyo audiences also have the added option of following selected performances through WOWOW’s live broadcasts, while fans attending in person will have to navigate overlapping schedules across the festival’s stages.
