Born in Germany and raised in the west of Ireland, Sinead had the unique experience of growing up speaking German at home and Irish and English in her daily life. Sinead describes her music as dabbling in a range of genres, particularly alternative folk, indie folk, and Celtic folk. Reflecting on her educational journey, Sinead highlights her receipt of the Irish Youth Music Awards BIMM Bursary in 2017 and her subsequent studies in Commercial Modern Music at BIMM Institute Dublin. She shared how the Irish Youth Music Awards encourages young musicians to create original music and expand their music-based education.

It has been a remarkable journey for Sinead Ann since her days at the BIMM Institute Dublin. In January 2023, Sinead performed at the Celtic Connections Festival, a renowned festival that showcases exceptional Celtic and folk music.

Today, on September 13th, Sinead unveils her highly anticipated single, “Four Walls.” The song delves into the complexities of emotions and the fear that accompanies anger.

How would you define your music?

I write to feed the delusions of the romantic day dreamer with a little food for thought. Sound wise: If you like the Cranberries, florence + the machine & Sinéad O’Connor, you may like my music.

You were awarded the Irish Youth Music Awards BIMM Bursary in 2017 and studied a BA in Commercial Modern Music at BIMM Institute Dublin. How did your education there shape your musical journey?

In my teens, I participated in the Irish Youth Music awards. The programme aims to encourage young musicians to create original music, further their music based education and offers live performance opportunities. I heard about BIMM through the programme. I’m very greatful for my time at BIMM. it certainly supplied me with the knowledge I needed to advance and progress as a musician. The musicians in my year were a particularly talented bunch, they inspired me to work hard and were very encouraging.

Performing at Celtic Connections in January 2023 must have been an exciting experience. How did it feel to be a part of such a renowned festival?

Performing at Celtic Connections was incredible, I was so stoked to be invited. It’s amazing to have the opportunity to bring your music abroad. There was such a buzz in Glasgow. I made lots of connections, in particular Mairi Sutherland, her set blew me away!

Your upcoming single “Four Walls” is set for release on September 13th, 2023. Can you share some insights into the themes and inspirations behind this new song?

My upcoming release “Four Walls” is all about hiding your grieving and its dark repercussions. It juggles between emotions and how frightening it can be to sit with anger

What’s your favorite line of the song and why?

Confessing truth, guilt and asking for forgiveness, my favourite line of the song is “Bless me father for I have sinned, I dreamt I killed the man who laid hand on my skin”

What is a message you would like to give through your music and why?

Vulnerability is not weakness, it’s the core of the human experience.
