Lisa is set to bring her solo story to the big screen this fall. Her first feature-length documentary, ALWAYS LALISA, will have its world premiere at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival on September 12, with the premiere date officially revealed Tuesday (Aug. 11).
The documentary is among the most anticipated music films heading to TIFF this year, offering an intimate look at Lisa’s transition from BLACKPINK superstar to solo artist during one of the most defining periods of her career.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Sue Kim, ALWAYS LALISA follows Lisa through a year of major personal and professional milestones. The cameras capture the creation and release of her debut solo album Alter Ego, her landmark performance at Coachella, her acting debut as Mook in HBO’s The White Lotus Season 3 and her return to Thailand to reconnect with family and longtime friends.
Lisa first announced the documentary through Sony Music Vision in 2025, but its selection for TIFF represents a significant step toward its public release. The 2026 Toronto International Film Festival runs from September 10 through September 20, with Lisa’s film now scheduled to make its world premiere on September 12.
Rather than presenting another conventional concert documentary, ALWAYS LALISA aims to show the person behind one of K-pop’s biggest global names. Lisa has previously described herself as “a normal girl from Thailand,” and the film explores that contrast by moving between massive stages, international premieres and quieter moments away from the entertainment industry.
Kim spent an entire year traveling with Lisa, documenting the singer as she established her identity outside BLACKPINK. That period included the rollout of Alter Ego, which marked Lisa’s first solo studio album and introduced five distinct alter egos through its visual and musical campaign.
The filmmaker brings significant documentary experience to the project. Kim previously directed A24’s The Last of the Sea Women, which premiered at TIFF in 2024, while her credits also include the Academy Award-shortlisted documentary The Speed Cubers and executive producing work on Apple TV+’s K-Pop Idols.
ALWAYS LALISA is produced by Sony Music Vision, LLOUD Co., RCA Records, Tremolo Productions and Salt Water Productions. Executive producers include Morgan Neville, Caitrin Rogers and Courtney Crockett, alongside executives from Sony Music Vision, RCA Records and LLOUD Co.
