Lisa is officially bringing her story to the big screen. The BLACKPINK superstar’s first feature-length solo documentary, ALWAYS LALISA, has been announced as an official selection at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival, where it will make its world premiere during the festival’s September 10–20 run.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Sue Kim, the documentary promises an intimate portrait of Lalisa Manobal during one of the most pivotal years of her career. After first being announced by Sony Music Vision in 2025, the project has now secured one of the industry’s most prestigious launchpads, giving audiences their first look at the film before its wider release.
ALWAYS LALISA follows Lisa as she temporarily steps away from BLACKPINK’s group activities to build her solo identity. Cameras accompanied her throughout the creation and release of her debut solo album Alter Ego, her landmark solo performance at Coachella, her acting debut in HBO’s The White Lotus Season 3, and her return to Thailand to spend time with family and longtime friends.
Rather than focusing solely on stadium performances and headline-making appearances, the documentary also explores quieter moments away from the spotlight. Lisa has frequently described herself as “a normal girl from Thailand,” and the film aims to capture that contrast between global superstardom and everyday life.
Kim spent an entire year traveling with the artist to document the journey. The filmmaker previously directed A24’s The Last of the Sea Women, which premiered at TIFF in 2024, and served as an executive producer on Apple TV+’s K-Pop Idols. Her documentary The Speed Cubers was also shortlisted for an Academy Award, making her one of the most respected documentary directors currently working.
When the documentary was first announced in 2025, Lisa reflected on the experience by saying she felt fortunate to preserve such an important chapter of her life on film. Kim described the production as “a cinematic gift,” adding that viewers would see aspects of the artist’s world that had never been shown publicly.
The film is produced by Sony Music Vision alongside Lisa’s LLOUD Co., RCA Records, Tremolo Productions and Salt Water Productions. Executive producers include Morgan Neville, Caitrin Rogers, Courtney Crockett and several executives from Sony Music Vision, RCA Records and LLOUD Co..
