LISA is looking back on one of the most personal moments of her solo era after bringing her documentary Always Lalisa to the Toronto International Film Festival. In a new Instagram post, the BLACKPINK star described the TIFF screening as a “special and unforgettable moment” and a turning point she was honored to share with audiences.
“Bringing Always Lalisa to TIFF was truly a special and unforgettable moment for me,” LISA wrote. “This film captures a chapter of my life that changed me in many ways and became an important turning point in my life.”

Directed by Sue Kim, Always Lalisa follows LISA through 12 months of independence from BLACKPINK as she builds her solo career, balancing music, acting, major live performances and a return to her roots in Thailand. The documentary covers the making of her debut solo album Alter Ego, her acting debut as Mook in HBO’s The White Lotus Season 3 and her Coachella performance, while also offering a closer look at her family and longtime friends.
For LISA, the project is about more than documenting a busy year. “Being able to share this story with everyone at TIFF is something I’m so grateful for, and honored to experience,” she continued. “Thank you to everyone who helped make this journey possible. I hope this film inspires you and gives you a little more insight into who I am.”
The documentary’s emotional connection to BLACKPINK is also central to its story. In the trailer released September 9, LISA reflects on her relationship with Jennie, Jisoo and Rosé, calling them her “soulmates” as footage of the four members plays across the screen.
Always Lalisa also addresses the pressure that shaped her career. “We had no days off,” LISA says in the trailer, before describing the expectations surrounding her from a young age. When told that she did not have to push herself so hard, she responds, “No, I can do it. I want to see what else I’m capable of.”
That determination has defined much of LISA’s solo journey. Alter Ego debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 after its February 2025 release and featured “Rockstar,” “New Woman” with Rosalía and “Born Again” with Doja Cat and RAYE. Her momentum continued in 2026 with “SaWaDiKa,” the lead single from her upcoming PRESS PLAY EP, while her September 27 MTV Video Music Awards win for “Dream” made her the first Asian solo act to win Best Pop in 42 years.
The documentary arrives as LISA prepares for another major milestone. Her VIVA LA LISA residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace has expanded from four shows to six after the original dates sold out rapidly, with new performances added for Nov. 12 and Nov. 29. The residency marks her first Las Vegas engagement and makes her the first K-pop artist to headline a residency at the venue.
