Beyoncé was right; “Cowboy Carter” is not just a country album—it’s much more. It’s a BEYONCÉ album! Queen Bey masterfully dives into this new venture of her career, leaving her mark once again on the music industry and making the country genre her own. She sets the tone for the album with the first track, “American Requiem,” instantly leaving the listener with the feeling of hearing a masterpiece, but it is only the beginning.
The album features 27 tracks for a total of 79 minutes. However, not all the tracks are songs. “Dolly P” is actually an introduction made by Dolly Parton for Beyoncé’s cover of “Jolene,” which is the following song on the album. Similarly, “Smoke Hour,” in which Willie Nelson welcomes listeners to ‘KNTRY Radio Texas,’ introduces the following song—“Texas Hold ‘Em.” Nelson returns for the fourteenth track to introduce “Just For Fun.” Miley Cyrus and Post Malone are featured on “II Most Wanted” and “Levii’s Jeans,” respectively.
Notably, the conclusion of every song coincides with the beginning of the following one, creating a smooth transition and a continuous theme for each song (for example, “RIIVERDANCE”—“II HANDS II HEAVEN” and “II HANDS II HEAVEN”—“TYRANT”).
Ultimately, Beyoncé closes the album with the same verse from the beginning, “American Requiem / Them old ideas are buried here / Amen.”
From “American Requiem” to “Amen,” here is our ranking of the songs from “Cowboy Carter.”
