When Mitski releases a new album, it rarely arrives quietly. With Nothing’s About to Happen to Me, her eighth studio record, she has once again reshaped the emotional architecture of indie rock—this time through the lens of a reclusive narrator suspended between isolation and defiance. Issued on February 27, 2026, via Dead Oceans, the project continues the stark, cinematic storytelling that defined her recent work.

Thematically, the record centers on a woman who exists as an outsider in public but finds autonomy within the walls of her unkempt home. Musically, Nothing’s About to Happen to Me builds on the orchestral sweep of 2023’s The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We. Longtime collaborator Patrick Hyland returns as producer and engineer, alongside members of her touring band.

Below, we ranked the best songs on Mitski’s new album Nothing’s About to Happen to Me.
