When a member of a fast-rising group steps back, even temporarily, the ripple is immediate. On February 20, Manon of KATSEYE announced she would be taking a hiatus from group activities to focus on her health and wellbeing. The news, shared through official channels including Weverse and X by the HYBE x Geffen-backed act, was framed as a mutual and supportive decision.

“After open and thoughtful conversations together, we are sharing that Manon will be taking a temporary hiatus from group activities to focus on her health and wellbeing. We fully support this decision,” the group said in a statement. No timeline was provided. The hiatus is described as temporary, but indefinite.

KATSEYE was formed through the Netflix series Popstar Academy, a global talent experiment that culminated in a six-member lineup positioned for international reach. Backed by HYBE and Geffen Records, the group has been building steady momentum since debut, blending K-pop precision with Western pop sensibilities. In 2025, they had huge success with the EP Beautiful Chaos, featuring the viral hits “Gnarly” and “Gabriela.”

Shortly after the announcement, Manon addressed fans directly. “I want you to hear this from me, I’m healthy, I’m okay, and I’m taking care of myself,” she wrote. “Sometimes things unfold in ways we don’t fully control, but I’m trusting the bigger picture.” Her message was calm and reassuring, an attempt to steady a fandom that has grown increasingly protective.

In the immediate term, KATSEYE will continue as five members. Scheduled promotions and performances remain intact. In March, the group is set to appear at the three Lollapalooza South America editions, a significant platform that signals the scale of their ambitions. Proceeding without interruption preserves that trajectory, while allowing Manon the space she says she needs.

For longtime fans, the shift is not entirely unprecedented. Over the past year, Manon had missed select schedules and promotional appearances due to illness or injury. She was notably absent from certain group photos and from the performance cut of the “Gabriela” music video. Fans had already begun discussing her reduced visibility in mid-2025, making this hiatus feel like a formal acknowledgment of a pattern rather than a sudden rupture.

The broader implications are more nuanced. In practical terms, choreography formations, line distributions, and visual balance may be adjusted in upcoming stages or releases. Creatively, however, the group has emphasized unity. During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the members confirmed that their debut album is in progress. There has been no indication that Manon’s pause alters those plans.

Speculation about permanence often surfaces quickly in the digital age. Yet neither the group nor its labels have suggested anything beyond a health-focused break. For now, the message is clear: KATSEYE continues forward as five, with the expectation of six again when the time is right.
