July 23rd marks the anniversary of the formation of one of the biggest boy bands in music history: One Direction. Consisting of Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Zayn Malik, the group dominated the music industry for years, capturing fans’ hearts with their energy and positive vibes. After placing third on the British competition show The X Factor, One Direction’s success skyrocketed with the release of their debut album Up All Night, which featured the global hit “What Makes You Beautiful.” It was only the beginning.

One Direction was very active in the first half of the 2010s, releasing four more albums: Take Me Home (2012), Midnight Memories (2013), Four (2014), and Made in the A.M. (2015). Each of these albums spawned numerous hit singles, from “Best Song Ever” to “Drag Me Down.” The group eventually went on an indefinite hiatus in 2016, with all members embarking on successful solo careers. As of 2024, fans still hope to see their idols reunite. While awaiting—and hoping—for that moment, we’ve gathered some of the impressive records 1D broke.
