Halsey has officially revealed her fifth studio album, The Great Impersonator. While the 29-year-old singer hasn’t shared the release date yet, she did drop a 1:30-minute teaser trailer across her social media platforms. The timing of this announcement is particularly meaningful, as today (August 27th) marks three years since the release of her last album, If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power. Although fans will have to wait a bit longer to mark their calendars, there’s already a lot we know about The Great Impersonator.

To start, The Great Impersonator is Halsey’s first album in three years, making it a significant moment in her career. In announcing the project, Halsey described it as a “Confessional Concept Album,” suggesting an intimate and personal exploration of her experiences over the past few years. Earlier this year, she released a standalone single titled “The End,” where she revealed her struggles with lupus and a T-cell disorder. In July, she followed up with “Lucky,” the official lead single from the album. The track, which samples Britney Spears’ hit “Lucky,” dives into the pressures of fame, motherhood, and Halsey’s health battles. With lyrics like “I shaved my head four times because I wanted to / And then I did it one more time ’cause I got sick,” the song offers a raw glimpse into her life. More recently, Halsey dropped the second single, “Lonely Is The Muse.”
The teaser trailer for The Great Impersonator offers fans a sneak peek at what’s to come. The video features Halsey in a variety of retro outfits, paying homage to the styles of the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s, and 2000s—a theme she introduced in the “Lucky” music video. The trailer also includes snippets of unreleased tracks from the album, adding to the anticipation.
While the official release date remains under wraps, it’s clear that The Great Impersonator will be out before the end of 2024. And with Halsey set to perform at the MTV VMAs on September 11th, there’s a good chance we might get another single before then.
