Anticipation for Halsey’s upcoming album, The Great Impersonator, is building each day as the pop star has been sharing images of herself embodying iconic musicians. Beginning with country legend Dolly Parton, Halsey’s tribute series has featured PJ Harvey, Kate Bush, Cher, David Bowie, and most recently, Evanescence’s Amy Lee, whom she associated with the album’s twelfth track, “Lonely Is the Muse.” On X/Twitter, Halsey wrote, “Day 6 of counting down to The Great Impersonator, October 25th. THE GREAT IMPERSONATOR #6: AMY LEE, my OG dark rock queen.

In response to a fan post questioning whether “Lonely Is the Muse” was inspired solely by Deftones’ “My Own Summer (Shove It),” Halsey clarified her creative approach for the album. “The songs aren’t influenced by just one artist! I pull from a lot of references. I’m just impersonating the one I find most fun to recreate. Also, I fear a Chino Moreno cosplay wouldn’t quite hit the same,” she replied.

The 30-year-old singer also shared insights into her makeup techniques, revealing that she used special effects makeup to capture each artist’s likeness. “For this look, I used old-school SFX makeup tricks to change my face shape. Amy has beautiful, youthful cheeks, while I’m all bones,” Halsey explained, noting she relied on practical effects like face tape and contacts, as well as “some other lil secrets.”

Set for release on October 25, The Great Impersonator draws influence from the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s, and 2000s. Fans have already been treated to four singles: “Lucky,” “Lonely Is the Muse,” “Ego,” and “I Never Loved You.” Halsey will continue the countdown, with daily impersonations of iconic artists, until the album’s release.
