Two decades after its debut reshaped Disney Channel’s identity, the Hannah Montana universe is returning with a milestone event. The “Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special” premieres March 24, 2026, exclusively on Disney+, offering a nostalgia-driven deep dive into one of the most influential teen series of the 2000s.
Filmed in front of a live studio audience, the special centers on an extended interview with Miley Cyrus, hosted by Alex Cooper. The conversation is positioned as the emotional core of the project, tracing the creation of the Hannah Montana persona and its cultural aftershock. Cyrus revisits defining moments from the show’s original run, blending personal reflection with behind-the-scenes insight into how the character evolved from scripted role to global phenomenon.
Archival material plays a key role in shaping the narrative. Producers have integrated previously unreleased footage alongside recreated sets, including the Stewart family living room and the signature Hannah Montana closet, both restored to mirror their original on-screen appearance. Familiar musical cues are also expected to re-emerge throughout the special.
Premiering on March 24, 2006, on Disney Channel, Hannah Montana quickly became a cornerstone of youth programming. Across four seasons, the series expanded into a multi-platform franchise that generated 14 platinum and 18 gold albums worldwide, alongside two feature films. Its success not only elevated Disney’s television strategy but also accelerated Cyrus’ transition into a pop superstar, setting a blueprint for future crossover acts.
In an official statement, Cyrus acknowledged the long-term resonance of the project: “Hannah Montana will always be a part of who I am. What started as a TV show became a shared experience that shaped my life and the lives of so many fans.” She added, “The fact that it still means so much to people all these years later is something I’m very proud of. This ‘Hannahversary’ is my way of celebrating and thanking the fans who’ve stood by me for 20 years.”
Production is led by HopeTown Entertainment and Unwell Productions, with Ashley Edens serving as showrunner. Cyrus joins Tish Cyrus-Purcell, Cooper, and Matt Kaplan as executive producers.
