Hilary Duff’s “CATastrophe” has emerged as the clear fan favorite among four major releases that arrived at the start of October. In an InMusic poll on X/Twitter, the song collected 48% of the vote, beating Lil Nas X’s “World’s Greatest!” with 30%, Victoria Monét’s Frequency of Love with 18% and Quavo’s Qrömelife with 4%.

Released October 2 through Atlantic, “CATastrophe” gives Hilary Duff another milestone in a comeback year that already includes Luck… or Something, her first full-length album in more than a decade. The song was written by Duff alongside Matthew Koma, Madison Love and Brian Phillips, with Koma and Phillips producing, and was created specifically for Warner Bros. Pictures Animation’s The Cat in the Hat.

Hilary Duff has described “CATastrophe” as capturing the feeling of having your entire world suddenly picked up and moved without being asked. That personal tension comes through while the track keeps enough energy for the car, matching the playful world of the upcoming film without turning the song into a conventional novelty soundtrack cut.

The accompanying video, directed by Dano Cerny, leans into the movie’s Seussian aesthetic, placing Duff inside oversized, surreal sets. The track will anchor The Cat in the Hat (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), scheduled for October 30 through WaterTower Music, alongside Lorne Balfe’s score and a Tim Minchin theme performed by Fitz and Minchin featuring Bill Hader. The film arrives in theaters and IMAX on November 6.

Lil Nas X’s “World’s Greatest!” finished second with 30% of the vote. Released October 1 through Columbia, the song marks his first single in roughly a year. Written solely by Lil Nas X and produced by C.WRAY and Steve Rusch, the track moves between vulnerability and self-belief, with the rapper declaring “I’m a champion” while echoing the confidence of “Industry Baby.”

The emotional weight of the release is heightened by its dedication to his mother, Tamikia Hill, who died in August. Phillip Youmans’ Atlanta-shot video moves between present-day rehearsal footage and scenes from Lil Nas X’s childhood, while the rollout begins with a voicemail from his mother saying, “Walk by faith, not by sight.”

Victoria Monét’s Frequency of Love took 18% of the vote, placing third despite arriving as one of the week’s most ambitious releases. The 22-track album expands on the world of her Grammy-winning Jaguar II, bringing together SZA, Bruno Mars, Leon Thomas, Lucky Daye, Bryson Tiller and Chlöe, while Monét’s daughter Hazel also appears.

Quavo’s Qrömelife, meanwhile, received 4%. The rapper’s third solo album and first since 2023’s Rocket Power was produced entirely by Pharrell Williams and features Tyler, the Creator, A$AP Rocky, Future, Offset, Lil Baby, T.I., Yung Miami and Justin Timberlake.
