With the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards just a few weeks away, fans are in a frenzy, casting their votes to help their favorite artists take home some of the night’s top honors. The first wave of nominations dropped on August 6th, and today, MTV has surprised us with two brand-new categories. In addition to Best Group and Song of the Summer, MTV has introduced Most Iconic Performance and Best Trending Video. To give fans more time to support their favorites, MTV has also extended the voting period by an extra week. Here’s everything you need to know about these new categories and who’s in the running.

MTV’s Most Iconic Performance category is a nod to those unforgettable moments that have defined the VMAs over the years. This category highlights performances that have left a lasting impact on pop culture. The nominees include:

Meanwhile, the Best Trending Video category celebrates the tracks that took social media by storm this past year, inspiring fans to create and share content in droves. The nominees are:

• “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” – Beyoncé
