BLACKPINK once again rewrote history—this time at the 2025 MTV VMAs. The K-pop group became the first act to have all four members—JENNIE, JISOO, LISA, and ROSÉ—nominated in the same category in a single year. Each member earned a nomination in the Best K-Pop category as a result of their successful solo projects. Over the past eight months, each member has treated fans to solo music. ROSÉ, LISA, and JENNIE have all released their debut albums—Rosie, Alter Ego, and Ruby, respectively—while JISOO unveiled her debut EP, Amortage, in February 2025.

At the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards, ROSÉ, in particular, shattered a new record. With eight nominations this year, she now holds the title for the most VMA nominations ever received in a single year by a K-pop act, surpassing the previous high set by BTS. Her nominations span major categories including Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Collaboration, and Best Cinematography—largely tied to her high-profile collaboration with Bruno Mars on the track “APT.”
The 2025 VMA nominations were announced on August 5, ahead of the awards ceremony scheduled for September 7 at UBS Arena in Long Island, New York. For the first time, the VMAs will air live on both CBS and MTV, with streaming also available through Paramount+. The nominations list features a competitive mix of global superstars: Lady Gaga leads with twelve nods—her third time topping the nominations list—followed by Bruno Mars with eleven and Kendrick Lamar with ten.
ROSÉ and Sabrina Carpenter are tied with eight nominations each, while Ariana Grande and The Weeknd follow with seven apiece. Notably, this year’s ceremony introduces two new gender-neutral categories: Best Pop Artist and Best Country Artist.
