Niall Horan and Rosalía have both issued public apologies after separate social media actions sparked outrage among Argentine fans in the aftermath of the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, where Spain defeated Argentina. The incidents quickly gained traction online, with many supporters accusing both artists of mocking the country during an emotional moment.
Rosalía’s controversy began shortly after the final when she shared a TikTok video originally posted by Mia Khalifa celebrating Spain’s victory. The clip featured Rosalía’s own song “La Perla” alongside the caption, “Cómo suena ahora que las perlas hayan sido derrotadas,” referring to the Argentine team in a way many fans interpreted as insulting.
The backlash intensified because Rosalía is scheduled to perform four concerts at Buenos Aires’ Movistar Arena on July 28, July 29, August 1, and August 2. As criticism mounted, the Spanish singer addressed the situation through her Instagram Stories, insisting she had only reposted the video because it included her music.
“I shared it because La Perla was playing, and I didn’t even read what it said. My bad. Sorryyyyyyyy.”
She accompanied the message with an Argentine flag. Despite the apology, many fans continued expressing frustration, with some calling for ticket refunds or boycotting the upcoming shows.
Around the same time, Niall Horan faced criticism after liking an Instagram post that mocked Argentina and included the phrase “Las Malvinas son españolas,” referencing the long-running sovereignty dispute over the Falkland Islands, known in Argentina as the Malvinas. The subject remains one of the country’s most sensitive political and historical issues.
Argentine fan accounts quickly flooded Horan’s social media with criticism, reminding the former One Direction member of the passionate support he has consistently received during previous visits to the country. Shortly afterward, Horan clarified the situation on X, describing the interaction as accidental.
