Olivia Rodrigo is leaving the door open to one of pop music’s most talked-about potential collaborations.
In a new cover story with Dazed published on June 4, the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter was asked whether she would ever consider working with Sabrina Carpenter. Rather than avoiding the question, Rodrigo gave a concise but notable answer: “I mean, I’m open… I’m open to all types of collaboration.”
The comment immediately reignited discussion among fans who have spent years speculating about a possible musical partnership between two of the defining pop stars of their generation. While Rodrigo stopped short of confirming any plans, her response marks another public indication that there is no animosity standing in the way of a future collaboration.
The possibility has become increasingly intriguing given how often the pair’s names have been linked since early 2021. Following the release of Rodrigo’s breakthrough single “drivers license” on January 8, 2021, online theories connected parts of the song’s narrative to Carpenter and actor Joshua Bassett. When Carpenter released “Skin” later that month, listeners interpreted several lyrics as a response, fueling a media narrative that would follow both artists for years.
Rodrigo addressed those rumors directly in March during an interview with British Vogue, where she dismissed the long-running feud speculation.
“I think she’s great. I’m so happy for all of her success too. I love the album she’s put out,” Rodrigo said at the time. She later added: “It’s just people just get weird and clickbaity – it’s all love, though. I’ve talked to her many times.”
A collaboration between Rodrigo and Carpenter would also arrive at a fascinating point in both of their careers.
Carpenter has emerged as one of the biggest commercial forces in pop through the success of Short n’ Sweet and her recently released album Man’s Best Friend. Rodrigo, meanwhile, is preparing to launch her next chapter with the release of her third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, arriving June 12 via Geffen Records.
Momentum around the project has accelerated rapidly in recent weeks. Lead single “Drop Dead” became one of the standout hits of early 2026, while follow-up release “The Cure” debuted at No. 1 on Spotify’s Daily Global Chart with 7.215 million streams. The track also opened inside the Top 10 in both the United States and United Kingdom, extending Rodrigo’s remarkable run of commercial success.
