SZA has renewed her criticism of artificial intelligence in music after claiming that hundreds of her recordings were used to train AI systems without her consent. The Grammy-winning artist took to Instagram Stories to express her frustration.
According to SZA, she recently discovered that AI models had been trained using 238 of her songs, including material she believes may never have been officially released.
“Jus checked and music Ai has Trained off 238 of my songs. Im certain some unreleased,” she wrote.
The 36-year-old singer continued by directing her anger toward musicians who support the use of AI-generated music and vocal replication.
“If your a musician and you support this degenerate shit? Your disgusting and there’s NOTHING YOU COULD EVER SAY TO ME TO MAKE THIS OKAY. I hope u have the life u deserve.”
The comments arrive as the music industry faces mounting questions over how artificial intelligence companies acquire training data. Artists, labels, and publishers have increasingly argued that copyrighted recordings are being used to develop AI tools without proper authorization, compensation, or transparency.
For SZA, the issue extends beyond legal concerns. Earlier this year, she openly criticized the rise of AI-generated songs and vocal imitations during an interview with i-D Magazine. At the time, she pointed to the growing number of synthetic covers appearing online and questioned their impact on artists attempting to build careers.
“Why am I hearing AI covers of Olivia Dean, when Olivia Dean just came the f*** out?” SZA said. “She can’t even collect the streams.”
The singer also voiced concern about the broader cultural implications of AI-generated content. During the same conversation, she argued that many artificial intelligence systems reproduce stereotypes rather than genuine artistic expression.
“I’m also really offended by the type of Black music that’s coming out of AI,” she said. “Weird, stereotypical struggle music.”
