Tate McRae is kicking off her new musical era with the release of the music video for “Housewife,” a bold, cinematic visual that turns traditional domestic expectations into a fantasy of wealth, freedom and unapologetic ambition. Directed by Pierre-Ange Carlotti and filmed in the south of France, the video pairs luxurious surroundings with sharp choreography and playful imagery that reinforces the song’s central message: Tate refuses to be contained.

Set against sun-drenched estates and yacht scenes, the visual presents a glamorous world where money, independence and personal pleasure take center stage. Tate McRae appears in a series of striking looks, including a floral corset, a captain’s hat and a black slip dress, moving between sunbathing sequences, playful encounters with male models and high-energy choreography by Sergio Reis. The polished aesthetic gives the video a cinematic quality while maintaining the tongue-in-cheek attitude at the heart of the song.

One of the most memorable images comes from the single’s promotional campaign, which features Tate McRae pushing a luxury baby stroller filled with cash. Rather than embracing the conventional image of a housewife, the symbolism flips the fantasy on its head, turning financial independence into the ultimate status symbol. The video carries that idea further, using extravagant settings and exaggerated displays of wealth to question the expectations traditionally placed on women.

“Housewife” arrived on October 15 as the lead single from McRae’s forthcoming fourth studio album, marking her first new release in almost a year. During her October 7 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the popstar described the track as being “about a woman who can’t be contained.” That idea runs throughout the lyrics, which challenge the pressures of the music industry while imagining a life built around financial freedom and self-determination.

“This industry will try to kill you… They try to take away your wild and free,” McRae sings, addressing the tension between professional success and personal identity. The chorus delivers the song’s defining statement: “I just wanna make a lot of money be my own housewife.” With a romantic partner presented as an optional addition rather than a requirement, the track rejects the notion that a woman’s ambitions must fit within a conventional domestic role.

Produced with involvement from Ryan Tedder, “Housewife” combines sleek pop production with the rhythmic momentum and confident vocal delivery that have become central to McRae’s music.

The rollout has also offered another example of McRae’s approach to teasing new music. During her Tonight Show appearance, she revealed that the title had appeared at the beginning of her Lollapalooza set months earlier, but fans failed to recognize it as a clue. “That was like three months ago, actually telling everyone I have a new song called Housewife,” she explained, poking fun at the elaborate theories surrounding her announcements.

The new single follows the commercial success of So Close to What, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. That album produced hits including “Sports Car,” “It’s OK I’m OK” and “2 Hands,” while “Tit for Tat” debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming McRae’s third Top 10 hit.
