Tate McRae has scored the biggest Spotify debut of her career with “Housewife,” which opens at No. 1 on the Daily Global Spotify Chart with 5.671 million streams. Released October 15, the new single surpasses the opening-day performance of “Tit for Tat” and gives McRae her first global Spotify chart-topper in more than three years, since “Greedy” dominated the platform in 2023.
The achievement marks a major start to Tate McRae’s new musical era, with “Housewife” immediately outperforming her previous personal record for a Spotify global debut. “Tit for Tat” previously opened at No. 5 with 4.13 million streams, meaning the new single attracted more than 1.5 million additional plays on its first day. McRae now has two songs that have reached No. 1 on the Daily Global Spotify Chart.

The momentum extended beyond streaming platforms. The “Housewife” music video collected 2.7 million views on YouTube during its first 24 hours, while the single climbed into the top three on the US iTunes chart. Tate McRae also ranked as the 25th most-streamed artist on Spotify on October 16.
Directed by Pierre-Ange Carlotti and filmed in the south of France, the “Housewife” video transforms traditional domestic imagery into a glamorous fantasy of wealth, freedom and independence. Sun-drenched estates, yacht scenes and elaborate styling set the scene for McRae’s playful rejection of conventional expectations, with choreography by Sergio Reis adding momentum to the visual.
The song arrived as the lead single from Tate McRae’s forthcoming fourth studio album and her first new release in almost a year. During an October 7 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, she described the track as being about “a woman who can’t be contained.” Its lyrics explore the tension between professional ambition and personal freedom, challenging the pressures of an industry that can threaten an artist’s sense of identity.
Produced with involvement from Ryan Tedder, “Housewife” pairs polished pop production with McRae’s confident delivery. The chorus, “I just wanna make a lot of money be my own housewife,” flips the traditional domestic fantasy into a statement about control over her own life, with romance presented as a choice rather than a necessity.
The release follows the success of So Close to What, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and produced hits including “Sports Car,” “It’s OK I’m OK” and “2 Hands.”
