MONSTA X return to their English-language catalog with Unfold, a focused, emotionally driven project that prioritizes restraint over spectacle. Released on April 3, the 10-track album reframes the group’s global identity through introspection, trading explosive hooks for layered storytelling.
Arriving nearly four years after 2021’s The Dreaming, Unfold marks a significant milestone, as MONSTA X become the first K-pop act to release three full English-language albums. Announced on March 2, the project leans into themes of healing, growth, and relational tension, supported by a minimalist black-and-white visual concept that underscores its tonal shift.
The album’s sequencing plays a key role in its effectiveness. “Heal” stands as the emotional centerpiece, balancing delicate vocals with a gradual instrumental build.
Energy shifts arrive on “Main Attraction” and “This!,” which inject a sharper, pop-leaning edge without disrupting the album’s cohesion. Even so, the project never fully abandons its introspective core, resulting in a record that seamlessly blends K-pop’s signature energy with a more refined, emotionally charged tone.
