BLACKPINK’s Lisa has shared a heartfelt message with fans following the controversy surrounding the group’s 10th debut anniversary celebrations. Writing through the Bubble app, the singer apologized to BLINKs after widespread disappointment over the scale of the anniversary event, saying she was saddened by how everything unfolded.
“Hi Blinks~ Hope everyone is staying cool in the summer heat. First of all it’s been almost a week since our 10 anniversary. As we are all aware, there has been some matters that have been circulating online. Which makes me sad and I’m truly sorry about how things turned out. I can’t even imagine how sad this must have been because I was too. It was supposed to be a special moment and a time of celebration for all of us… I’m not here to justify anything or make a point—only to honor the love and connection we shared because I’m truly grateful that we were able to come together. I hope we can carry the love we shared with us moving forward. Love you Blinks and thank you for always being there for us,” Lisa wrote.
Her message arrives days after BLACKPINK themselves addressed the situation during a live broadcast on August 8. The group responded to criticism sparked by YG Entertainment’s decision to celebrate the milestone with a private meet-and-greet attended by only 40 randomly selected fans, a format that left many BLINKs disappointed given the significance of the occasion.
During the livestream, Jisoo acknowledged fans’ frustrations and revealed the members had hoped to celebrate with far more people. “We originally really wanted to see a lot of people,” she explained, adding that “there was a bit of a miscommunication on our end” before apologizing to fans who felt hurt by the situation.
The backlash began after YG Entertainment announced the intimate event just days before BLACKPINK’s 10th anniversary. Besides limiting attendance to 40 Weverse members selected through a lottery, the agency initially stated that participation would depend on each member’s individual schedule, prompting uncertainty over whether all four members would even appear together.
For many fans, the celebration fell short of expectations for one of K-pop’s biggest milestones. BLACKPINK debuted on August 8, 2016, with Square One, launching a career that has since produced global chart success, record-breaking tours and thriving solo careers for Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa.
The anniversary also followed another successful chapter for the quartet. Earlier this year, BLACKPINK released the Deadline EP, which set a new first-week sales record for a K-pop girl group, before wrapping up the Deadline World Tour.
