Produced by Gary Duncan of Red Lake Sound Studios, “Broken” is a bittersweet, folk-infused pop-rock track characterized by heartfelt lyrics and a unique cinematic sound. To craft this blend, ARREN experimented with orchestral elements for the first time. Thematically, the song speaks directly to those struggling with mental health challenges such as depression and anxiety, reminding listeners that they are not alone — and that healing is possible when struggles are shared. “Broken” has been in the works for a while, and it takes the listener into ARREN’s own healing journey from mental health struggles.
“During the pandemic, my mental health suffered greatly,” he recalls. “‘Broken’ is one of the songs that helped save me. To be honest, if I hadn’t been able to channel my thoughts into my music, I don’t know if I’d be here today. I can’t wait to share ‘Broken’ with everyone, and if it helps even one person feel less alone in their struggles, then I’ve achieved what I set out to do.”
To mark the release, ARREN performed an intimate acoustic set at Sin É in Dublin last Saturday, April 19, sharing the stage with fellow artists Gabriel Bond and Cian Airoldi. He has also announced a major return to Whelan’s on June 21, where Kevin Plunkett will join him as a special guest.
