Billie Eilish is once again using her platform to call for urgent gun reform following a series of devastating mass shootings over the past weekend. On December 14, the Grammy-winning artist shared a powerful message on her Instagram Stories, responding to multiple violent attacks reported across the United States and abroad.
“Today is the anniversary of the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary, and we woke up to the news of mass shootings in Australia, at Brown University, and in Brooklyn,” Eilish wrote. “This is so devastating. My heart goes out to all of the victims and their loved ones. Raise your voice, work for change, and vote out anyone who’s not willing to reform gun policy.”
Her statement came amid widespread global grief. On December 13, a gunman opened fire during a final exam review session at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, killing two students and injuring nine others. Less than 24 hours later, another deadly attack unfolded at a Hanukkah celebration on Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, where a father-and-son duo allegedly killed at least 15 people. The incident marked Australia’s worst mass shooting in nearly three decades and reignited international conversations around firearm legislation.
Eilish’s message also carried symbolic weight due to its timing. December 14 marks the anniversary of the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, one of the deadliest school shootings in U.S. history.
The singer has long been vocal about gun control. In 2019, she urged fans to contact lawmakers through Everytown for Gun Safety. In 2023, she joined the Artists for Action to Prevent Gun Violence coalition, standing alongside other high-profile musicians and creatives advocating for legislative reform.
