Doja Cat is stepping confidently into her next pop era. During her headlining set at Outside Lands Festival, the Grammy-winning artist confirmed that her new single, “Jealous Type,” will be released on August 21, marking the first official track from her upcoming album Vie. The release is already generating heavy anticipation among fans, further fueled by Jack Antonoff’s role as producer.

Doja offered a preview of “Jealous Type” through a short teaser uploaded to her YouTube channel. According to early reports, the song was originally set for an August 8 release, but RCA Records later clarified that it was “coming soon,” hinting that fans would have to wait a little longer.

The track appears to lean into the themes she recently described to V Magazine: a return to pop, infused with vintage influences and grounded in artistic honesty. “I do want to be self-aware enough to admit the fact that this is a pop-driven project,” Doja told V Magazine in her latest interview. She also noted that Vie will pull inspiration from the 1970s and 1980s, with a creative focus on texture, mood, and message rather than chasing commercial success. “It’s how things sound that makes the music worth listening to,” she said, adding, “I want to embrace imperfection.”

Jack Antonoff’s involvement in “Jealous Type” marks a new creative pairing for Doja Cat. The Grammy-winning producer is a longtime collaborator of Taylor Swift and Lana Del Rey, and has previously worked with Lorde, Sabrina Carpenter, and Kendrick Lamar. Antonoff’s production style may offer a dynamic contrast to the gritty, alternative direction of Doja’s last album, Scarlet. Released in September 2023, Scarlet featured the global hit “Paint the Town Red” and leaned heavily on hip-hop and experimental sounds. It debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and was praised for its bold artistic risks.
