Gracie Abrams used one of fashion’s biggest stages to preview her next musical era, speaking about her upcoming single “Hit the Wall” during a red carpet interview at the Met Gala 2026. The track, set for release on May 14, marks the first official step into what fans have been calling her long-awaited “GA3” chapter.

Speaking with La La Anthony for Vogue, Abrams framed the single as a deeply personal reset. “It’s the introduction to this new chapter,” she said. “I feel grateful and relieved that this is the introduction. I love the song so much and I love the people I made it with. It feels embodied and that feels good. I’m excited for it to belong to everyone else.”

Her appearance matched the night’s artistic ambition. Arriving in an ornate gold Chanel gown inspired by The Kiss, Abrams leaned fully into the “Costume Art” theme and “Fashion Is Art” dress code, which positioned the 2026 gala as a dialogue between couture and fine art.

Momentum around “Hit the Wall” has been building steadily. The announcement last week followed months of studio teasers and cryptic social posts hinting at a new body of work. Abrams had already signaled the shift in tone as far back as late 2025, writing “I cannot wait for you to hear the new music, just know that,” before doubling down with two follow-up messages emphasizing “Just. Know.”

Recent interviews have offered further clarity on her creative direction. In a conversation with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, she cited “I Told You Things” and the unreleased “Death Wish” as key reference points, suggesting a continuation of the introspective, emotionally detailed songwriting that has defined her rise.

That trajectory accelerated with The Secret of Us, released in June 2024. The album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and expanded her sonic palette across pop, indie, and folk textures, anchored by tracks like “Risk,” “Close to You,” and “I Love You, I’m Sorry,” alongside the widely discussed collaboration “Us” with Taylor Swift.
