Joe Leone steps further into his next artistic chapter with the release of “Safety,” a deeply intimate new R&B single now available on all major streaming platforms. Released on Friday, June 26, via Grammy-nominated icon Eric Benét and JBR Creative Group, the track positions Leone at the center of a renewed conversation around emotional honesty in contemporary R&B.
Built around understated, soulful production from Curtis “Sauce” Wilson, “Safety” leans into slow-burning instrumentation and a restrained vocal approach that prioritizes emotional weight over maximal arrangement. The record explores the tension between desire and security, asking a direct question that anchors the entire song: whether true vulnerability still exists in modern relationships shaped by detachment and surface-level connection.
Eric Benét, who co-signed the release through JBR Creative Group, framed the single as a reminder of R&B’s foundational purpose. His statement emphasized Leone’s ability to channel lived emotion into timeless songwriting, positioning “Safety” as a return to music rooted in trust, intimacy, and narrative clarity rather than trend-driven production choices.
“Joe Leone has a rare ability to tap into real emotion and express it in a way that feels both timeless and necessary,” Eric Benét said in a statement. “Safety is a powerful reminder that love is rooted in trust and security. Music that speaks to real love is exactly what R&B needs right now.”
Momentum around Joe Leone has been steadily building ahead of this release. Earlier in the year, his Over Under remix featuring Ne-Yo reached the Top 10 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart. That success followed a long career footprint as both a songwriter and collaborator, including co-writing J. Brown’s No. 1 hit “True Love” alongside Carvin Haggins.
Industry recognition has also been reinforced through live performance circuits. Leone previously joined the Calling All Lovers Tour alongside Tamar Braxton, October London, and Ro James.
The single also functions as a preview of Leone’s forthcoming album, which is expected to expand on the emotional themes introduced here.
