Olivia Rodrigo’s “Stupid Song” has been crowned the InMusic Song of the Summer 2026, defeating Ariana Grande’s “Hate That I Made You Love Me” in the final round of our fan-voted bracket. The victory extends Olivia Rodrigo’s strong run in InMusic competitions and gives her the summer crown after a 32-song battle featuring some of the biggest names in pop.
“Stupid Song” now joins ROSÉ’s “Messy” (2025), Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” (2024) and Zayn’s “Love Like This” (2023) as the fourth winner of the InMusic Song of the Summer competition. It also marks the third consecutive year that the title has gone to a song by a female artist.
Olivia Rodrigo entered the final with momentum already behind her. “Stupid Song,” the third single from her third studio album You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, was written by Rodrigo and produced by Dan Nigro, continuing the creative partnership that has shaped much of her recent work.
Released alongside the album on June 12, the song quickly established itself as one of the record’s biggest tracks. “Stupid Song” debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 dated June 27, arriving in a particularly strong week for Rodrigo as “Honeybee,” “Drop Dead” and “The Cure” also occupied positions in the Top 10. The result increased her career total to 10 Top 10 hits, while giving the album four simultaneous Top 10 entries.
Its international performance was just as significant, with “Stupid Song” opening at No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart. By the time the InMusic bracket reached its championship round, the song had already become one of the defining pop releases of the season.
Grande’s “Hate That I Made You Love Me” provided the final obstacle. The track survived every stage of the competition before reaching the championship, creating a final matchup between two artists who had already crossed paths several times in this year’s InMusic fan voting.
Their rivalry began in May, when “The Cure” faced “Hate That I Made You Love Me” for the InMusic Song of the Month title. Rodrigo won that battle, but Grande got her revenge in the Song of the Summer semifinals, eliminating “The Cure” and sending her own song into the final.
That left “Stupid Song” as Rodrigo’s last remaining contender after her other Round 4 entry, “The Cure,” was eliminated. The victory gives Rodrigo another fan-voted title during an era that has already produced a major commercial milestone: You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 485,000 equivalent album units.
The 32-song bracket also featured Taylor Swift, Tyla, Zara Larsson, KATSEYE, LISA, Karol G, Shakira and Burna Boy, while Slovak singer-songwriter ADÉLA emerged as one of the competition’s biggest surprises. Her “Ain’t In LA” reached the final four before falling short of the championship round.
With the final vote now decided, “Stupid Song” becomes the song that defined InMusic’s summer of 2026. Scroll down to see the full list of the best songs of Summer 2026 and revisit every track that made the bracket one of our biggest fan battles yet.
