Miley Cyrus has released the official music video for “Different Religion,” the Model/Actriz-assisted track from her new album Bass Persuades. Directed by Mert Alas, the cinematic visual leans into the song’s darker religious imagery, desert mythology and gritty rock aesthetic while giving Miley another striking visual statement for her latest era.

Cyrus announced the release on social media, thanking fans for supporting each of her albums and celebrating Bass Persuades reaching No. 1 on the Billboard 200. “Thank you to my fans for supporting every album and taking BP to #1. Different Religion featuring @modelactriz video out now,” she wrote.

The video opens against a vast desert backdrop, with cinematic titles establishing an atmosphere that feels closer to a modern rock western than a conventional pop video. From there, Alas moves between sun-drenched landscapes, saturated red lighting and stark black-and-white performance sequences, creating a visual contrast that mirrors the tension running through “Different Religion.”

Miley Cyrus appears throughout the video with an electric guitar. Close-ups bathed in deep red light add to the sense of danger, while black-and-white footage strips the imagery down to its rawest elements.

A white muscle car becomes another central visual motif, speeding along an isolated desert highway with rosary beads hanging from the rearview mirror. The religious symbolism continues with crosses and devotional imagery, but the video places those objects against lyrics that frame faith in far more personal and unconventional terms. The song’s central idea comes through in lines such as “I’ve got my own god” and “saved by a different religion,” turning traditional religious language into a metaphor for an intense personal devotion.

The release arrives at a major moment for Bass Persuades. Released September 18, the 10-track album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 61,000 equivalent album units, giving Miley Cyrus her first chart-topping album since Bangerz reached the summit in October 2013.

The campaign also represents a new chapter professionally, with Bass Persuades serving as Cyrus’ 10th studio album, her first project for Atlantic Records and her first release promoted under the name MILEY.

Following the album’s No. 1 debut, “Different Religion” now gives the era another cinematic centerpiece.
