While waiting for new music to enjoy, it’s the perfect moment to make a splash in the past and relive the albums that accompanied us during the summer days ten years ago in 2014. Kicking off our voyage to the summer of 2014 is country icon Miranda Lambert, who released her fifth album, “Platinum,” on June 3rd. The album was a massive success, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and winning the Grammy Award for Best Country Album as well as the CMA Award and ACM Award.
A.K.A. – Jennifer Lopez
Ten years ago, Jennifer Lopez delivered her eighth studio album, “A.K.A.” The LP featured notable collaborations with French Montana and Iggy Azalea, with the latter appearing on the Billboard Hot 100 top 20 single “Booty.”
Ultraviolence – Lana Del Rey
Riding the wave of the success of her major-label debut album “Born To Die,” Lana Del Rey released the follow-up, “Ultraviolence,” in June 2014. The record received critical acclaim and features some of Lana’s fan-favorite tracks, such as “West Coast” and the title track. Following the album’s release, the singer/songwriter embarked on The Endless Summer Tour.
x (Multiply) – Ed Sheeran
On June 20, 2014, Ed Sheeran unleashed what would become one of the most successful albums in history, “x (Multiply).” The LP topped charts in 15 countries, including the US Billboard 200 and the UK Albums Chart. It spawned numerous hit singles, such as “Thinking Out Loud” and “Photograph.” At the 57th Grammy Awards, the album received two nominations for Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year. As of June 2024, “x (Multiply)” stands as the 12th most-streamed album on Spotify, with over 10 billion streams.
These Things Happen – G-Eazy
G-Eazy’s third album, “These Things Happen,” turns 10 years old this month. The album, released via RCA Records, debuted and peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and achieved RIAA Platinum certification for selling 1 million copies. The album’s third single, “Tumblr Girls,” was recently sampled by G-Eazy himself on the single “Lady Killers III.”
5 Seconds of Summer – 5 Seconds of Summer
Ten years ago, four young Australian artists—Calum Hood, Michael Clifford, Luke Hemmings, and Ashton Irwin—presented themselves to the world with their self-titled debut album “5 Seconds of Summer.” The band gained notoriety as the opening act for none other than One Direction. In early 2014, they released the debut single “She Looks So Perfect,” followed by the first album. The LP immediately catapulted the band to the top of the charts, including the Billboard 200.
