Bad Bunny, a dominant force in 2025 with his new album DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS, emerges as the most streamed artist on the platform this year. In a groundbreaking achievement, he becomes the first artist in Spotify history to achieve this milestone four times.
While past years saw artists like Drake and Taylor Swift topping the annual Spotify list, it’s worth recalling the artists who led each year. Here’s a recap of the most streamed artists by year:
2013 — Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
In 2013, the rap duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis reached their peak. With hits like “Thrift Shop” and “Can’t Hold Us,” they dominated that year.
2014 — Ed Sheeran (860 million)
In 2014, Ed Sheeran claimed the title of the most streamed artist on the notorious platform, but he didn’t have the most streamed song of that year. In fact, Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” took that honor with 260 million streams amassed over the year.
2015 — Drake (1.8 billion)
As Spotify continued to grow, Drake became the first artist to amass over 1 billion streams in a year in history. The Canadian rapper emerged as the most streamed artist of the year, surpassing Ed Sheeran. Notably, Justin Bieber, who dropped the album “Purpose,” set the record for the most streams in a single day (36 million).
2016 — Drake (4.7 billion)
In 2016, Drake confirmed his first-place position on the Spotify Year-End list. The rapper improved upon the massive numbers of the previous year, earning nearly 5 billion streams.
2017 — Ed Sheeran (6.3 billion)
After three years, Ed Sheeran returned to the top of the Spotify annual list. In 2017, Ed released the record-breaking song “Shape Of You,” which quickly became the most streamed song in history—a record that would last until 2022 when The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” dethroned it. In 2017, Ed Sheeran also had the biggest album with “Divide” (3.1 billion).
2018 — Drake (8.2 billion)
For the third time in four years, Drake was the most streamed artist on Spotify. Overall, 2018 was dominated by rap music, with Drake on top, followed by Post Malone and XXXTentacion.
2019 — Post Malone (6.5 billion)
Carried by the success of the album “Hollywood’s Bleeding,” Post Malone broke the streak of Ed Sheeran and Drake and became the most streamed artist of 2019. That year witnessed the rise of Billie Eilish, whose debut album “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” was the most streamed.
2020 — Bad Bunny (8.3 billion)
In 2020, Bad Bunny made history, becoming the first Latin artist to be the most streamed act on Spotify.
2021 — Bad Bunny (9.1 billion)
In 2021, the Puerto Rican sensation confirmed himself as a music giant, gathering over 9 billion streams on Spotify.
2022 — Bad Bunny (18.5 billion)
Last year, Bad Bunny continued his series on top of the Spotify list, doubling the numbers of the previous year.
2023 — Taylor Swift (26.1 billion)
It has been a year to remember for Taylor Swift. The pop star set and broke numerous records with her two re-recorded albums, “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” and “1989 (Taylor’s Version),” as well as her record-breaking The Eras Tour, set to become the highest-grossing in history. Now, Taylor Swift closes her incredible 2023 by setting two more records. She becomes the first female artist to top the Spotify Year-End list and the most streamed artist in a single year, amassing over 26 billion streams.
2024 — Taylor Swift
For the second consecutive year, Taylor Swift tops Spotify Wrapped. The pop superstar dominated the year with her 11th studio album “The Tortured Poets Department,” amassing millions of streams every day.
2025 — Bad Bunny (19.8 billion)
For a record-extending fourth year in total, Bad Bunny is the most-streamed artist on Spotify in 2025. The Puerto Rican icon ends Taylor Swift’s two-year reign. He spent much of 2025 atop the Daily Global Spotify Artist Chart thanks to the massive success of his sixth studio album, Debí Tirar Más Fotos. Released on January 5, 2025, the LP spawned several standout tracks, including “DtMF” and “Baile Inolvidable.”
