Spotify is stepping deeper into the live music business with a new ticketing feature designed to reward dedicated listeners instead of rewarding the fastest browser refresh. On May 21, the streaming platform officially unveiled “Reserved,” a new concert ticket program that will hold seats for select fans based on their Spotify activity.

The feature launches this summer in the United States for eligible Spotify Premium subscribers aged 18 and older, with additional markets expected later. According to Spotify, Reserved will identify an artist’s “most dedicated fans” using listening behavior including streams, shares, and overall engagement, then temporarily reserve up to two tickets before the general public on-sale begins.

Unlike traditional pre-sales that rely on codes or fan club memberships, Reserved centers directly around user activity on Spotify itself. Fans selected for access will receive both an email and in-app notification, giving them roughly a one-day purchase window to complete checkout through Spotify’s ticketing partners.

The company framed the rollout as a direct response to growing frustration surrounding modern ticket sales. In its official announcement, Spotify described current on-sale systems as “stressful” and “unpredictable,” arguing that too many tickets end up with scalpers instead of real fans.

Spotify already integrates tour promotion heavily into its ecosystem through features like Concerts Near You, Venue Search, and Live Events Feed notifications. The company says those efforts have already generated more than $1.5 billion in ticket sales for artists through partnerships with over 40 ticketing providers.

Eligibility will vary depending on the artist, city, and tour size. Spotify clarified that not every superfan will receive an offer because demand will still exceed available inventory. The company also stated it will actively monitor accounts to verify “real human fans” and reduce bot activity during distribution.

Fans hoping to improve their chances are encouraged to enable live event notifications, keep location settings active, and update their preferred concert markets inside the Spotify app. Reserved offers will only apply to tours available in a listener’s region.
